Tuna Melt

A Tuna Melt is a popular and tasty sandwich made with tuna salad and melted cheese. It's typically served on toasted bread and often includes additional ingredients like mayonnaise, onions, and various seasonings. Here's a simple recipe for making a classic Tuna Melt:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cans (5-6 oz each) of tuna, drained
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons chopped red onion
  • 1-2 tablespoons chopped dill pickles (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices of bread (white, wheat, or rye)
  • 4 slices of cheddar, Swiss, or any melting cheese of your choice
  • Butter or margarine for spreading on the bread

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, chopped red onion, chopped dill pickles (if using), and Dijon mustard (if using). Mix everything together until well combined.

  2. Season the tuna salad with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning to your preference.

  3. Preheat your oven's broiler or a panini press.

  4. Lay out the bread slices on a clean surface, and on one side of each slice, spread a thin layer of butter or margarine. This will help the bread toast and become crispy.

  5. On the other side of two slices of bread, spread an even layer of the tuna salad mixture.

  6. Place a slice of cheese on top of the tuna salad on each of the two bread slices.

  7. Take the other two bread slices (buttered side out) and place them on top of the cheese to create sandwiches.

  8. Place the sandwiches in the preheated oven or panini press. If using the oven's broiler, cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until the cheese is melted, and the bread is toasted to your liking. If using a panini press, follow the manufacturer's instructions for grilling the sandwiches.

  9. Once the Tuna Melts are cooked to perfection, remove them from the oven or panini press.

  10. Slice the sandwiches in half, and they are ready to be served hot and delicious!

Tuna Melts make for a quick and satisfying meal, perfect for lunch or a light dinner. You can customize the recipe by adding other ingredients such as sliced tomatoes, avocado, or lettuce. Enjoy your homemade Tuna Melt.
