Easy Weeknight Salisbury Steak is a flavorful and comforting dish that can be prepared quickly, making it perfect for a busy weeknight dinner. Salisbury steak is a classic American dish made with seasoned ground beef patties served in a rich gravy. Here's a simple recipe to make this delicious meal:
Ingredients:
For the Salisbury Steak:
- 1 lb ground beef (80% lean is ideal)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for cooking)
For the Gravy:
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together until well combined.
Divide the beef mixture into four equal portions and shape them into oval-shaped patties, about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick.
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the Salisbury steak patties to the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the cooked patties from the skillet and set them aside.
In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms (if using) and cook them until they are tender.
Reduce the heat to medium, and in the skillet with mushrooms, melt the butter. Stir in the flour and cook for a minute or two to form a roux.
Gradually add the beef broth to the skillet while continuously stirring to avoid lumps. Continue to cook and stir until the gravy thickens and reaches your desired consistency.
Season the gravy with salt and pepper to taste.
Return the cooked Salisbury steak patties to the skillet, spooning some of the gravy over them. Let them simmer in the gravy for a minute or two to absorb the flavors.
Serve the Salisbury steak patties with the rich mushroom gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite side dish.
This easy weeknight Salisbury Steak recipe is sure to become a family favorite. It's a satisfying and delicious meal that's perfect for busy evenings when you need something quick and comforting. Enjoy
