Fried Ice Cream
Fried Ice Cream is a unique and delicious dessert that combines the crispiness of a fried outer coating with the cold creaminess of ice cream inside. It's a popular treat in many Mexican and Asian restaurants. Although it sounds complicated, making fried ice cream at home is surprisingly easy. Here's a simple recipe for you to try:
Ingredients:
- 4 scoops of your favorite ice cream (common flavors include vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry)
- 2 cups cornflakes or crushed cornflake cereal
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 large eggs
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Honey, chocolate syrup, or caramel sauce for drizzling (optional)
- Whipped cream and maraschino cherry for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Line a baking sheet or tray with parchment paper. Take the scoops of ice cream and place them on the prepared tray. Make sure they are not touching. Place the tray in the freezer and let the ice cream scoops freeze solid, about 1-2 hours.
In a shallow dish, mix the crushed cornflakes and ground cinnamon until well combined.
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs.
Remove the frozen ice cream scoops from the freezer.
Roll each frozen ice cream scoop in the crushed cornflake mixture, pressing gently to coat the ice cream thoroughly. You can repeat this step to create a thicker coating, if desired. Place the coated ice cream scoops back on the tray and return them to the freezer for an additional 15-30 minutes to firm up.
Meanwhile, heat the vegetable oil in a deep pot or skillet over medium-high heat. The oil should be about 2 inches deep.
Once the oil is hot enough (around 350°F or 175°C), carefully lower one or two coated ice cream scoops into the hot oil using a slotted spoon.
Fry the ice cream for a few seconds until the outer coating turns golden brown. Be quick as you don't want the ice cream to melt completely.
Using the slotted spoon, remove the fried ice cream from the oil and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
Optional: Drizzle honey, chocolate syrup, or caramel sauce over the fried ice cream.
Garnish with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry, if desired.
Serve the Fried Ice Cream immediately while it's still hot and crispy on the outside and delightfully cold on the inside. It's a fun and satisfying dessert that's sure to be a hit with everyone!
