Margherita Pizza
Margherita pizza is a classic Italian pizza that is known for its simple and delicious combination of flavors. It is named after Queen Margherita of Savoy, who, in 1889, was presented with a pizza featuring the colors of the Italian flag: red (tomato sauce), white (mozzarella cheese), and green (basil). This became the iconic Margherita pizza we know today.
Here's a traditional Margherita pizza recipe:
Ingredients:
- Pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce or tomato sauce
- 8 ounces (about 225g) fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced or torn into pieces
- Fresh basil leaves
- Extra-virgin olive oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to the highest temperature it can reach (usually around 475-500°F or 245-260°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
Roll out your pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. If you prefer a thin crust, roll it out thinly. Transfer the dough to a pizza peel or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Arrange the sliced or torn fresh mozzarella over the sauce, covering the entire pizza.
Tear or thinly slice some fresh basil leaves and scatter them over the cheese.
Drizzle a little extra-virgin olive oil over the top, and season with a pinch of salt and black pepper to taste.
Once your oven is fully preheated, carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone in the oven (if using a stone) or place the baking sheet directly in the oven.
Bake the Margherita pizza for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a minute or two before slicing.
Optionally, you can drizzle a bit more olive oil over the pizza and add some extra fresh basil leaves on top for presentation.
Slice the Margherita pizza and serve it hot. Enjoy!
This classic Margherita pizza is beloved for its simplicity and delightful combination of flavors. It's a great way to showcase the deliciousness of high-quality ingredients like fresh mozzarella and basi
