Hot Buttered Rum Bread Pudding
Hot Buttered Rum Bread Pudding is a delightful dessert that combines the flavors of hot buttered rum with the comforting texture of bread pudding. It's a perfect treat for cold winter evenings or any time you crave a warm and indulgent dessert. Here's a simple recipe to make this delicious dessert:
Ingredients:
- 6 cups stale bread, cubed (such as French bread or brioche)
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup dark rum
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
- Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)
For the Hot Buttered Rum Sauce:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup dark rum
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, melted butter, dark rum, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
Add the cubed stale bread to the egg and milk mixture. Gently toss the bread cubes to ensure they are evenly coated with the liquid. Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
Pour the bread pudding mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
Bake the bread pudding in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the pudding is set in the middle. You can check for doneness by inserting a knife into the center; it should come out clean when the pudding is done.
While the bread pudding is baking, prepare the Hot Buttered Rum Sauce. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Stir in the brown sugar and cook for a few minutes until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
Carefully add the dark rum and a pinch of salt to the butter and sugar mixture, stirring continuously. Let the sauce simmer for a couple of minutes until it thickens slightly.
Once the bread pudding is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
Serve the warm bread pudding in individual dishes and drizzle the Hot Buttered Rum Sauce over each portion. Optionally, you can top it with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
Enjoy your Hot Buttered Rum Bread Pudding, and savor the comforting flavors of hot buttered rum in this delightful dessert
