Bok Choy Stir Fry
Bok Choy Stir Fry is a quick and flavorful Asian-inspired dish that showcases the tender and crunchy texture of bok choy. It's a versatile and nutritious vegetable that pairs well with various sauces and ingredients. Here's a simple recipe for making a delicious Bok Choy Stir Fry:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) baby bok choy (or regular bok choy), washed and dried
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil (such as vegetable oil or sesame oil)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, grated or minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari (use gluten-free tamari for a gluten-free option)
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (for a non-vegetarian option) or vegetarian oyster sauce (for a vegetarian/vegan option)
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon water or vegetable broth
- Optional toppings: sesame seeds, sliced green onions (scallions), crushed red pepper flakes
Instructions:
Trim the ends of the baby bok choy and separate the stalks from the leaves. If using regular bok choy, chop it into bite-sized pieces.
In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce (or tamari), oyster sauce (or vegetarian oyster sauce), toasted sesame oil, and water (or vegetable broth) to create the stir-fry sauce. Set aside.
In a large skillet or wok, heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat.
Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.
Add the bok choy stalks to the skillet. Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until they start to soften.
Add the bok choy leaves to the skillet. Stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until the leaves wilt slightly.
Pour the prepared stir-fry sauce over the bok choy. Toss everything together until the bok choy is evenly coated with the sauce.
Continue to cook for another 1-2 minutes until the bok choy is cooked to your desired level of crispness. Be careful not to overcook it; you want to retain some crunchiness.
Optionally, sprinkle sesame seeds and sliced green onions (scallions) over the stir-fried bok choy for added flavor and presentation.
If you prefer some heat, sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes over the stir-fried bok choy.
Serve the Bok Choy Stir Fry immediately as a delicious and nutritious side dish or a flavorful addition to your main course.
Bok Choy Stir Fry is a quick and easy dish that highlights the natural flavors of bok choy. It can be served alongside rice, noodles, or your favorite protein source for a complete and satisfying meal. Enjoy the delightful combination of textures and Asian-inspired flavors in this simple stir fry
