Tiramisu
Tiramisu is a popular Italian dessert known for its luxurious layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and creamy mascarpone cheese filling. It's a delectable and elegant treat that's sure to impress your guests. Here's a classic Tiramisu recipe for you:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled to room temperature
- 3 tablespoons coffee liqueur (e.g., Kahlúa) - optional
- 3 large egg yolks
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese, softened
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 24-30 ladyfinger cookies (savoiardi)
- Unsweetened cocoa powder or grated chocolate, for dusting
Instructions:
In a shallow dish, combine the cooled brewed coffee and coffee liqueur (if using). Set it aside.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until the mixture becomes thick and pale yellow.
Add the softened mascarpone cheese to the egg yolk mixture and beat until well combined and smooth.
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated. Be careful not to overmix.
Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for a few seconds on each side, making sure not to soak them too much.
Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a 9x9-inch (or similar size) square or rectangular dish.
Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the layer of ladyfingers, ensuring an even distribution.
Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers on top of the mascarpone layer.
Finish by spreading the remaining mascarpone mixture over the second layer of ladyfingers.
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate the Tiramisu for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight. This allows the flavors to meld together and the dessert to set.
Before serving, dust the top of the Tiramisu with unsweetened cocoa powder or grated chocolate.
Tiramisu is best enjoyed chilled and is a lovely way to end a special meal. The combination of coffee, creamy mascarpone, and the delicate texture of the ladyfingers make it a truly indulgent dessert that will leave a lasting impression. Buon appetito
