Classic Caesar Salad

Classic Caesar Salad is a popular and timeless salad that originated in Tijuana, Mexico, in the early 1920s. It was created by an Italian-American restaurateur named Caesar Cardini. The salad typically consists of romaine lettuce, croutons, Parmesan cheese, a creamy Caesar dressing, and often grilled chicken or shrimp can be added as well.

Here's a simple recipe to make a Classic Caesar Salad at home:

Ingredients:

  • 1 head of romaine lettuce, washed and chopped
  • 1 cup croutons (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Caesar dressing (see below for the dressing recipe)
  • Optional: Grilled chicken or shrimp, cut into bite-sized pieces

Caesar Dressing:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Caesar dressing: In a bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and grated Parmesan cheese. Slowly drizzle in the olive oil while whisking continuously to emulsify the dressing. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the flavors as needed and set the dressing aside.

  2. Assemble the salad: In a large salad bowl, add the chopped romaine lettuce and croutons. If you're adding grilled chicken or shrimp, toss them in at this point. Gradually add the Caesar dressing to the salad and toss well to ensure everything is coated with the dressing.

  3. Add Parmesan cheese: Sprinkle the freshly grated Parmesan cheese over the salad and gently toss it again to distribute the cheese evenly.

  4. Serve:

  5. Transfer the Classic Caesar Salad to individual serving plates or bowls and optionally garnish with extra Parmesan cheese and a few croutons on top. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Note: The dressing and croutons can be prepared in advance to save time when assembling the salad.

The Classic Caesar Salad is a delightful mix of flavors and textures, making it a favorite choice in many restaurants and households worldwide. It's simple to make and can be enjoyed as a side dish or a light meal on its own
