Carne Asada
Carne Asada is a popular and flavorful Mexican dish consisting of grilled and marinated beef, typically thinly sliced. It's a delicious and versatile dish that can be served as the main protein in tacos, burritos, salads, or simply on its own with side dishes. Here's a simple recipe to make Carne Asada:
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds flank steak or skirt steak (thinly sliced if possible)
- 1/3 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 jalapeño pepper, seeds removed and finely chopped (optional, for some heat)
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil (or any cooking oil of your choice)
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
In a bowl, prepare the marinade by combining the orange juice, lime juice, soy sauce, minced garlic, chopped jalapeño (if using), chopped cilantro, ground cumin, chili powder, paprika, black pepper, and vegetable oil.
Place the thinly sliced flank steak or skirt steak in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish.
Pour the marinade over the beef, making sure it coats all sides. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or ideally, overnight to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.
Preheat your grill or stovetop grill pan over medium-high heat.
Remove the marinated beef from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 15-20 minutes before grilling.
While the beef is resting, you can strain the marinade to remove any solid pieces, or you can reserve some of the marinade to use as a basting sauce later.
Grill the beef on the preheated grill for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness. The cooking time will depend on the thickness of the slices and your preference for doneness.
As the beef cooks, you can baste it with the reserved marinade or additional fresh lime juice to keep it moist and flavorful.
Once the Carne Asada is cooked to your liking, remove it from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
Slice the Carne Asada thinly against the grain to ensure tender and flavorful pieces.
Serve the Carne Asada with warm tortillas, grilled vegetables, salsa, guacamole, and any other desired toppings or sides.
Enjoy this delicious and authentic Carne Asada with its bright and zesty flavors, perfect for a satisfying Mexican-inspired meal
